LTA host meeting with NEC, the security sector, and telecom service providers to coordinate the telecom needs for the upcoming national elections

Ahead of the 2023 General & Presidential Election, the Liberia Telecommunications Authority (LTA) today hosted a technical meeting at the Ellen Johnson Ministerial Complex to discuss and identify telecommunications solutions for the October 10 elections. This gathering brought together key stakeholders, including Madam Davidetta Browne Lansanah, Chairperson of the National Elections Commission (NEC), representatives from the NEC, the National Security Advisor, Mobile Network Operators (MNOs), and Internet Service Providers (ISPs).

The primary focus of the meeting was to address communication and security measures to ensure a transparent and peaceful electoral process for the upcoming Liberia National Election. During the meeting, Madam Davidetta Browne Lansanah, Chairperson of NEC, formally requested the establishment of a no-cost text messaging system. This system would play a crucial role in disseminating election-related information to the public. On the other hand, the Mobile Network Operators (MNOs) expressed their interest in obtaining technical details from NEC to better understand the specific requirements and ensure seamless cooperation.

The meeting concluded with an agreement to meet at the NEC headquarters tomorrow for a follow-up session. This session aims to delve deeper into the aforementioned issues and further strengthen collaboration in support of a free, fair, and transparent election process.
